The Truth about Living in Mumbai

The Truth about Living in Mumbai

A local insight that can teach you many things regarding the Indian metropolis.

Hello, my name is Gaurav and I am from one of the fastest growing cities in India known as Bombay, or Mumbai.

Mumbai is also a city of dreams commonly tagged as "the city that never sleeps" and that is 100% true. 24/7 if you are hungry and want to eat anything you like, Mumbai will serve you the best food. If you are lost at any time there will be people to guide you on your way without asking for anything in return.

Mumbai has always been believed to be a city where you will find animals roaming on the streets, people still perpetuating old beliefs or where someone might rob you while walking outside peacefully, but I will clear this misconception in a few lines:

1) We do have animals on the streets roaming here and there, but I call them living beings. With a population of 23 million, one can obviously expect to see more people on the streets and animals locked in cages or freely roaming in the urban jungle. For many, myself included: man is a social animal.

2) Yes we do have old beliefs that you might find strange but for us it is simply our culture. For example, before going to an exam, a student would touch his parents’ feet and pray to God hoping to get good marks. We share a bond through our culture and when you are in Mumbai, believe it or not, you will see the joyful celebration of EID, in the same manner as Diwali, Baisakhi or Christmas are celebrated. We refer to it as "Brotherhood".

3) If you are worried that someone might rob or even attack you, that is probably your inner fear. A normal Mumbaikar can travel happily from his home to the crowded local train, their workplace and back home safely just because they know how to live fearlessly.

It is all about coming and enjoying your life as a Mumbaikar when you are in Mumbai and exploring life as an Indian does. Language, culture, people and beliefs when put all together give the city a unique charm we are proud to call "Mumbai".
