Have you ever heard of Hatshepsut? Probably not. Yet she was a Pharaoh long before the reign of Cleopatra. But the difference is that she was the first woman in power in Ancient Egypt, and in her times, it was a shock.

Hence why after her death, numerous statues and depictions of her were smashed so that she would be erased from history books. Of course, her ascension, just as her reign, demanded well-thought tricks and shenanigans to win the favor of her people, such as... looking like a man. But despite her evident struggle, many scholars agree that she was one of the greatest rulers of the ancient dynasties. In fact, according to Egyptologist James Henry Breasted, she was "the first great woman in history of whom we are informed."
